PROJECTIntroduction [Biosketch]
- Dr. Shashi Kumar G. K. is an Assistant Professor of English in the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences at the National Institute of Technology Silchar, Assam, India. He holds an M.Phil. and a Ph.D. in Translation Studies (English) from the University of Hyderabad. His doctoral thesis examined the relationship between translation and literary history, focusing on early translations from English into Kannada between 1847 and 1930 and their role in shaping modern Indian literature in general and modern Kannada literary traditions in particular. He is a Charles Wallace India Trust (CWIT) Fellow and undertook research in the United Kingdom. He also received a travel grant from a Leverhulme-funded academic network to present his research at an international conference at the University of Glasgow. Dr. Kumar is currently the Principal Investigator of an Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) Major Research Project titled, Literary Interface through Translation: Early Modern Literary Texts from Sanskrit, Bengali, Marathi and Telugu into Kannada (1800–1930). The project examines the contribution of translations from Indian languages to the formation and transformation of Modern Kannada literary traditions and regional literary histories. With over four years of teaching experience, he is committed to fostering students’ Professional communication skills, critical thinking, and literary sensibilities. His research interests include Translation Studies, Comparative Literature, Dalit Literature, Modern Kannada Literature, and Postcolonial Literature. He has presented his research work at national and international conferences.
